"Vampire! Vampire!" shouts the radar operator, as he feverishly calls out range and bearing data of incoming missiles over the command net. Alarms like this one are suddenly occurring every minute, as frantic reports stream in from all over northern Norway, Great Britain and the Norwegian Sea. Through the chaotic chatter you try to grasp what you can of the situation: inbound, unidentified bogies are being detected from multiple locations. Base commanders are reporting small arms fire in their vicinity. One base, and then another, has suddenly gone off-line. There's no time to think, no time to analyze, only time to grab your keflar vest and your overcoat and hope you don't fall victim to an incoming missile -- or a case of frostbite. You look at your watch. Just after midnight, New Years eve. It is the first day of the year 2010. The first day of war.
This is the setting for Stage II of the Global Thunder MBX -- a combined-arms wargame played over the Internet by fun-seeking wargamers from all over the world. After a 10-month (real time) planning period that made up Stage I, the players are finally ready to rumble! This stage will be played at the operational level, as teams will be given a series of combat missions all designed to meet a single operational goal for their side. Teams will control ground, naval and air forces from as high as the two-star command level all the way down to the platoon, squadron and ship captain level, depending on the situation. Players of all skill levels and wargaming interests are invited to join in the action. Lurkers are also welcome. To sign up, please go to the Recruiting Center and fill out the appropriate form.
For rules and guidelines on how to play this game, see the Global Thunder MBX Game Guide. If you are completely new to the MBX concept there is an MBX FAQ that should answer most of your questions. To read about past MBX games, check out the MBX Archive, in particular the archived web site and After Action Report for the Battle of Brunei MBX. (Take your shoes off and relax; it's a long read!)

This is the main page for the Global Thunder MBX wargame, where people can take command of a wide array of military forces, or just lurk and watch the war unfold. Click on the News button, above, to read the latest headlines, then click on the ENN logo to get the full story. For background information on the state of the world in the year 2009 (the year our scenario takes place), read the UN Study on International Affairs located in the Intel area. Game rules, reference materials and maps are also available at this site to explain how the game works and to help lurkers follow the campaign from the beginning of the war to its exciting conclusion.
This page also serves as the gateway to each team's headquarters page, where players and lurkers can obtain secret game materials such as official orders, maps, intelligence updates or any other sensitive information. To access your team's headquarters, click on the RESTRICTED AREA button, above, and enter your team password. (Make sure you click on the "Go" button in the password window, and not simply hit the Enter key). Passwords will change periodically throughout the exercise to ensure team security.
